Apathy Towards Kashmiri Pandits
Kashmiri Samiti Delhi, deeply regretted the apathetic attitude of most of the national political parties who, while releasing their election manifestos, did not care to mention the problem of Kashmir, especially the problem of Kashmiri Pan- dits who are languishing in unhygienic migrant camps at Delhi and Jammu as also in different parts of India. In a statement to the press, it said those who were crying hoarse about secularism turned a blind eye to what was happening in Kashmir where fundamentalists had forced whole of 2.5 lakh Kashmiri Pandits out of the valley. What a paradox? What is more tragic is that the former Prime Minister, Sh. Rajiv Gandhi, deplored the so-called excesses by security forces in the valley, while completely ignoring the brutal killing of Kashmiri Pandits by islamic fundamentalists and secessionists.
Every Kashmiri Pandit who has lost his property, his homeland and peace of mind feels frustrated and betrayed by the Govt. More than one and a half year has passed, and yet the government has failed to come out with any comprehensive and respectable package of relief measures for Kashmiri Pandits. Even promises of adhoc relief which were made in the deliberations with the Prime Minister and Home Minister have not been fulfilled.
SACRILEGIOUS ACT
Kashmiri Samiti Delhi, strongly condemned the sacrilegious act of recent rocket attack within the premises of Holiest of Hindu Shrines in Kashmir "Mata Khir Bhawani" at Tulamula. In on state- ment to the press, the Samiti pointed out that this act has deeply hurt the religious sentiments and sent shock waves and anger among all the Hindus. The Samiti appeal to all right thinking people, includ- ing Muslim leaders, to condemn such shameful acts by misguided youth in the name of Islam and Azadi. Samiti warned the government to ensure proper pro- tection of all Hindu sacred places in the valley and in the event of its failure to do so Kashmiri Hindus were prepared to make any sacrifice to restore the sanctity of their sacred shrines in Kashmir which have been looted and desecrated in the last one year. The Samiti urged the Govt. to immediately arrange to send a team of Kashmiri Hindu leaders as well as media personnel to assess the damage failing which a nation-wide "Dharam Yudh" shall be launched.
