Lt. Col. Vinod Bhat was felicitated by Shri Prakash Singh Badal, Chief Minister of Punjab, at Punjab Bhawan, on the successful demolition of 19,905 unexplored munitions (UXBS) lying in Punjab.
Since this ammunition had been placed in unexplored states it had the propensity of killing lakhs of humans. Demolition of such munitions involves danger to limbs and life. Col Bhat and his team had to exhibit a lot of courage and agility to accomplish the job - which it did and which culminated in success.
Col. Bhat was, also, conferred the prestigious Vishisht Seva Medal on this year's Republic Day. This was in recognition of his high standard of professional acumen, vision, devotion and dedication to duty.
Col Bhat hails from the Gairu village of the Tral tehsil of Kashmir. He is the son of Major Manohar Nath Bhat (retired). Major Bhat is the nephew of the religion-cum political stalwart Kashep Bandho who introduced, into the Valley, social reform, replacement of pheran by sari, marriage of young Hindu widows and launched the mochhifol movement for financing social welfare programmes.
