The Anchar Lake is a swampy area. The Sind Nullah enters this lake from one side and flows out from the other. It is about 8 Kms long and 3 Kms. wide. Gandarbal is a famous township on its north-west bank. Once a beautiful lake within the Srinagar City, has turned into marshy land with plenty of houses and buildings built over it illegally.  Anchar Lake is a lake in highly deteriorated condition located near Soura area in the city of Srinagar, Jammu and Kashmir, India. Situated close to Ganderbal, The lake is connected with the famous Dal Lake via a channel "Amir Khan Nallah", just as the Dal-gate connects Dal to the Nigeen Lake.    Valley of kashmir was always an agricultural based economy and srinagar mostly as tourist hub, but the  very people who earn from these lakes are trying to covert these water bodies into there lawns for houseboats and decade later a hotel would be constructed on that illegal land.
