Snow Fall
Rajeev Sabni
In chillywinters,
When, mercury showed
No sign, to come up
Those days, when pheren¹
Shielded me, against biting cold,
Kangri warming me up
snow, I have seen it fall,
through, small glassy windows
of my home.
It happened, once too often,
the navsheen³ arrived
admidst dark, silent, nights
from the cloud sown sky
The tiny snow balls, didn't
drop & die, they engulfed, earth
layer after layer & whitened everything.
It commits me to memorise
those white people, white roof tops,
white electric poles, along white lanes
the white frozen lakes and that huge
white booun", long tiny glittering
swords. the strange
but splendid hush of land scape
sushergants hanging, like transparent
covered this snow.
Kasheer looked like a blank
sheet of paper.
spotlers and virgin eyeing through
those avalanches of snow
turned whole icy-fang, into
a book of verse,
a record of all unheard
& unspoken words.
