Reveries
H L Shishoo
Traversing leisurely down memory's immortal lane,
My Thoughts tread gently the empty dark space,
On the forgotten tracks of nature's vast canvass.
Shadows recast my past through hazy wet eyes;
Emotions play past on golden sunset of Dal waters,
Snow capped mountains casting dark lengthy
shadows
Naked now, They were once abode of dense green woods,
Hangul and Cheetah roamed freely in their natural abodes.
Alas! our greed has not even spared divine kingdoms.
Suddenly, I hear the flight and flash of sounds.
These are deafening echoes of countless guns.
In the lengthening shadows I hear sound of ripples.
The lake I traversed lyrically in youth heaves and shudders:
Panicky fishes in dark green waters and frightened birds,
Howling dogs and mournful sounds pierce the darkness.
Deep within my heart, I can feel the anguish of
Homeless souls with wounded wings in pain.
I try to console my pride and shame.
There must be countless others forlorn and wane
My tears explain the environment of my place.
Tell me who has robbed our music and folklore.
Anguish and cry rises from within me.
Welcome, every pain and welcome all the tears,
To make us united and once again brothers.
Our agony shall end and darkness disappear.
Our boundless spirit surcharged shall reappear
Brothers! fill the cups with sweetness and compassion
For our common good and life long association
Make my bed and let on the light
Some day I shall arrive home late in the night.
