Pushp: A Scholar Par Excellence

Prof PN. Pushp, who passed away in exile, was a scholar par excellence He was an institution in himself. A common Kashmiri knew him as a Professor of Sanskrit but he was a linguist too. As a member of the official languages commission in 1956 his contribution was admired by the Chairman of the Commission B.G. Kher and other distinguished members like Suniti Kumar Chatterjee. Balkrishna Sharma Naveen, Ramdhari Singh Dinkar and Dr. Hazari Prasad Diwedi etc.
In 1962 the first and the only All India Oriental Conference was held in Srinagar. It was attended by eminent scholars like Dr Raghuveera and Dr. V Raghavan etc. Professor Pushp was the Secretary and Organiser of this important conference.
Professor Pushp will be remembered for his contribution as advisor of the Editorial Board of Kashmiri Dictionary, published by J&K Academy of Art, Culture and Languages.
He was amongst the few dedicated band of young protagonist of Hindi before independence and his contribution to the propagation and development of Hindi in the valley will be written in golden letters He was closely associated with the only Hindi Journal 'Chandrodaya' published then from the Valley
His contribution as editor of the first Hindi anthologies published by the J&K Academy of Art, Culture and Languages will be long remembered
