Govt To Intensify Crackdown On Terror Funding In Valley

The Centre has decided to intensify the crackdown on terror funding and money flow to Hurriyat and pro-Pak elements in Kashmir. A high-level meeting, chaired by Home Secretary Rajiv Gauba on Monday and attended by ED chief Karnal Singh and NIA chief YC Modi, decided to form a joint coordinated mechanism to prevent the money laundering fix the elements providing money to Hurryat leaders and other terror cells in the troubled Valley.

The NIA’s newly formed special unit to plug the terror financing will intensify the actions to plug and fix the fund managers in the valley with the assistance of Enforcement Directorate.

According to highly placed officials, apart from agents across the Pakistan border, the major flow of money also come from middle east based agents and sympathizers for the anti-national and terror unleashing activities in the Kashmir.

Nepal based agents are also actively involved in money laundering in the Valley, said officials.

The high level meeting has entrusted the NIA’s special unit, ED’s core team and Intelligence Bureau’s special cell for joint operations against money laundering and terror financing in Kashmir and the monitoring meeting will be held on regular basis. The culprits would be expected to be tried before the NIA’s fast track courts.

The meeting also took notice of the ongoing recent probes and prosecutions against the Hurryat leaders like Shahbir Shah and Sayed Ali Shah Geelani.

The MEA is expected to give alerts to the Middle East countries where substantial origin of fund flow to Pakistan sponsored terror activities in Kashmir is happening.

The RAW officers in these countries will also plunge to action to curb the money originating centers in Middle East and Nepal.

The errant banks and money transfer firms in these countries would be expected to serve notices through Enforcement Directorate under the UN Conventions against terror financing and money laundering.

According to officials, the meeting also decided to fast track the existing probes against the pro-pak elements involved in funding the stone pelting incidents in the Valley.
