Colonel Killed Accidently In Ammunition Depot

An Army colonel posted in south Kashmir in one of the biggest ammunition depots was killed when his service weapon went off accidentally while negotiating a speed breaker on Monday afternoon, defense sources said.

They said that the officer was rushed to hospital for treatment where he succumbed to injuries.

Police sources said that Colonel JV Mahadik from the corps of artillery was posted in 21 Field Ammunition Depot (FAD) headquarters at Khundroo in south Kashmir’s Anantnag district. Mahadik received serious bullet wounds after his gun went off as the officer crossed a speed breaker in his vehicle inside the camp.

He was immediately rushed to a medical facility where he was declared dead on arrival. Defence spokesman in Srinagar Col Rajesh Kalia confirmed the death of the officer in the accidental fire.
