People in Jammu, Ladakh felt PDP was biased against them’

Date:- 20 Jun 2018

BJP general secretary Ram Madhav, who is in charge of the party in Jammu & Kashmir, said the decision to quit the alliance with PDP was taken in view of the deteriorating security situation in the state and resentment in Jammu and Ladakh regions over lack of development.

“For BJP, J&K is a matter of great national importance but there is grave concern in the country over the deteriorating security situation in the state. National integration is paramount for BJP and it can’t compromise on that,” Madhav said at a press conference.

He said there was widespread resentment in Jammu and Ladakh over lack of development and there was a perceptible sense of discrimination. “BJP members in the government strived to serve people in the state, including those in Jammu and Ladakh, yet they faced a situation where the government was seen as unresponsive and lacklustre to the needs of people in these regions,” he said. Madhav said BJP had joined hands with PDP to form a coalition government in early 2015 respecting the mandate of the people. “In the last three years, BJP tried its best to work towards the objectives of the coalition government-—peace, development and progress in all the three regions of the state,” he added.

The BJP leader said the daylight murder of journalist Shujaat Bukhari in Srinagar was an indicator of the deteriorating security situation and the extent of radicalisation. “While the security forces have done a fabulous job in the last few years in containing the situation, law and order, which is managed by the state government, showed severe shortcomings,” he added.
