The Pakistan army handed over a resident of Poonch district to the Indian Army at Chakan da Bagh cross-LoC point on Friday. Mohammad Alyas (33) of Jhallas village in Poonch, had inadvertently crossed the LoC on December 11, 2018, through Salotri Nullah, the police said.

“Immediately after Alyas crossed over, his family lodged a missing report. During investigation, the police contacted the Army authorities, who subsequently contacted their counterparts in PoK. After a long correspondence, Alyas was repatriated by Pakistan today,” said Ramesh K Angral, Poonch SSP.

As per his family, Alyas is mentally unsound. He will be handed over to the family after a medical examination and completion of other legal formalities, the SSP said.

Sources said Major Ishtaq of 41 Baloch unit of the Pakistan army and tehsildar Mohammad Ali handed over Alyas to the Indian authorities, including Major Vegnesh and Gulpur tehsildar Abdul Rashid.

Alyas was later handed over to the Poonch police for further investigation.
