Pandits hold Shivratri function

Date:- 26 Feb 2019

Continuing their efforts to preserve unique ancient Shaivite rituals, displaced Kashmiri Pandits are reaching out to youth who were born in the camps in Jammu.

To familiarise them about the importance of the upcoming festival of Maha Shivratri for the community, social activists associated with Sanjeevani Sharda Kendra organised ‘Samohik Shivratri Samaroh’ at Jagti township.

Speaking on the occasion, Swami Radesh Dass and Prof PN Trisal spoke about the need to save the cultural identify in exile and the role which the young generation has to play.

On the occasion, Jammu University Vice Chancellor Prof Manoj Dhar said, “the Pandit community needs to preserve its mother tongue in order to save culture, custom and values. The mother tongue is the best medium to inculcate sense of belongingness.”

Prof Dhar said in order to promote the Sharda script, the university had introduced a certificate course and would soon also run a diploma programme. — TNS
