Police ‘forcing’ Jammu to become another Kashmir?

Date:- 13 Feb 2019

Even as Jammu is demonstrating complete solidarity with the stranded Kashmir bound passengers at this hour of crisis due to closure of national highway, the shameful incident of anti-India sloganeering in the heart of temple city and totally unwarranted and biased tackling of the situation by police has not only vitiated the atmosphere but also forced peaceful netizens to think where they are heading towards.
Is Jammu becoming another Kashmir with anti-national activities gaining acceptability and impunity? The blame for this will go squarely to the police than anti-India elements who virtually enjoyed field day in expressing their ire. In the process they ended up in setting a trend of abusing the nation and eulogising Pakistan in the nationalistic Duggarland. Is it going to be a new narrative in Jammu now onwards?
Jammu Police is reported to have filed two separate cases into the incidents, which took place in and around GGM Science College, under FIR Nos 14/2019 under Sections 147, 148, 336, 427, 124 and 341 (against those who raised anti-national slogans and indulged in violence) and FIR 15 /2019 under Section 336 (scuffle between the students and the stranded passengers), which led to disturbances. The registration of FIRs is candid admission of anti-India slogans having been raised. And what followed next was cane-charge on the young students, perhaps for their crime of resenting to such sloganeering and raising pro-India slogans.
Keeping in view the volatile situation and the brewing resentment among Jammuites, the police was expected to cool the tempers and take action in order to send a terse message that anti-national activities will not be allowed in this part of the State that has all along opened arms for the people from Kashmir in distress, irrespective of their religious affiliations. Jammu is within its rights to ask to how many anti-national elements were arrested or booked for raising anti-India slogans after registering FIR. Jammu also asks answers for the action taken against the police personnel, who instead of reining in the anti-India elements subjected young college boys and girls to their brutal action. They did not hit young boys with lathis but tried to kill their love for the nation, which they demonstrated after hearing abuses against their country.
The police inaction against anti-national elements and brutality on the patriotic young students has potential of injecting sense of insecurity among the people of Jammu, who have been watching in desperation the situation in Kashmir, which led to total ethnic cleansing. That did not happen due to barbarianism of terrorists and Pakistan supported Jihadis alone. That essentially happened due to connivance of pro-Pakistan elements in the civil and police administration besides the political class. They are the actors who are responsible for unleashing and sustaining fear among pro-Indian left-overs in the Valley, including Sikhs, Hindus and microscopic minority of patriotic Muslims.
The administration in general and the police in particular is undermining the sentiment of most patriotic people of Jammu. By showing bias in the GGM College happenings, the police has actually shaken the confidence of the people and strengthened their apprehensions about Jammu becoming as volatile as Kashmir, Kishtwar or Rajouri.
In March last year, the police had lodged FIR against four Nowshera youth for raising pro-Pakistan slogans but till now no arrest has been made. The incident encouraged the Kashmir lobby so much that a lawmaker from the Valley raised Pakistan Zindabad slogans in Legislative Assembly in Jammu.
The virus of anti-India has already taken the Baba Ghulam Shah Badshah University in Rajouri under its group. On November 22, 2017, two students were booked by the police for showing disrespect to National Anthem in presence of the then Governor N. N Vohra. Despite their contemptuous images caught on the video, police did not go ahead with its FIR. As a result another anti-national incident took place in March last year when students of the university offered Nimaze Gaybana for its student, a terrorist Eisa Fazli, who was gunned down by security forces in Srinagar on March 12, 2018. The pro-Pak students indulged in massive anti India slogans several times in between with impunity.
The killing of a BJP leader and his brother in Kishtwar besides several other terror incidents are also seen as a silent but sinister design to grip Jammu under the fear of terror and anti-national activities. Last year’s Kathua incidents cannot be viewed in isolation. They too were part of well thought over designs. All these acts and incidents are forcing the people of Jammu to think whether their land too is turning as another Kashmir-an out of bound area for Indians.
