Sexual Harassment Of Girl Students In Jammu: Probe Begins

A case of alleged sexual harassment of girl students studying in Baba Ghulam Shah Badshah University (BGSBU) by a senior faculty member has come to light in frontier Rajouri district of Jammu region.

Moving swiftly in the matter Deputy Commissioner, Rajouri Dr Shahid Iqbal Choudhary has already initiated a formal inquiry in the matter. But it appears the University authorities are resisting impartial probe in the matter.

Three days ago on April 3, 2018 office of Deputy Commissioner, Rajouri had sent a written communication to the office of Vice Chancellor, BGSBU to send senior university authorities and senior professor against whom allegations of sexual harassment were levelled by the students in his office for their examination by the designated officer as per the guidelines laid down by Apex Court on April 5,2018. In response office of Vice Chancellor, BGSBU simply sent a written reply.

According to official sources, Deputy Commissioner, Rajouri was not satisfied with the written reply and is expected to initiate action against the senior faculty member as he had failed to turn up in the office of Deputy Commissioner.

In his communication to the office of Vice Chancellor, BGSBU, Deputy Commissioner Rajouri had clarified that a prima facie case has been made out based on the evidence presented in the form of a compact disc with recorded conversations apart from written complaint received through registered post.
