Date:- 09 Jan 2019

An unidentified militant was killed in a brief gunfight in south Kashmir’s Pulwama district on Tuesday, the police said.

The gunfight broke at Chowdhry Bagh Litter village, over 40 km from Srinagar, when militants fired at an Army patrolling party which was passing through the area. “The forces retaliated, triggering a brief encounter in which a militant was killed,” a police officer posted in south Kashmir said.

The identity and affiliation of the slain militant is being ascertained

A police spokesman said incriminating materials, including arms and ammunition, were recovered from the slain militant.

“Notably, no collateral damage took place during the incident amid reports of some firing on the security forces in a nearby area when the encounter was in progress,” the spokesman said.

Soon after the brief shooting, the forces cordoned the village to trace the other attackers. Clashes also erupted in the area when the forces were carrying searches in the village, eyewitnesses said. The protesters set ablaze a load-carrier near the encounter. The forces resorted to tear-gas shelling to disperse the protesters.
