Students continue protest over Bhagat Singh remark

Date:- 04 Dec 2018

Students and activists of the Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad (ABVP) continued their protest against the head of the political science department at the University of Jammu (JU) over his “controversial” remarks against freedom fighter Bhagat Singh.

They demanded his immediate dismissal from service.

The protesters also burnt a book on freedom struggle used by Prof M Tajuddin while allegedly referring to Bhagat Singh as a terrorist

Scores of students and activists, led by ABVP state secretary, J&K, Deepak Gupta, assembled outside the Dean, Students’ Welfare office, at the main campus of the university and raised slogans against the accused Professor.

“The Professor has admitted that he had used the controversial term while delivering the lecture. What are the university authorities waiting for? He should be dismissed from service without any delay to send a strong message,” Gupta said.

He said they would continue the protest till the university took a strict action against the professor.

The university has constituted a six-member inquiry committee and asked it to submit a report within seven days
