Date:- 04 Dec 2018

The J&K Police have busted three major modules of militants across the Valley by arresting at least 18 overground workers (OGWs).

Two separate modules of Pakistan-based Jaish-e-Mohammad were busted by the police in south Kashmir’s Pulwama district and 10 OGWs of the group were arrested. One module was busted in Khrew and another in Tral.

A police spokesman said a special team was constituted to investigate the recent attacks which were aimed at creating fear in Tral.

“On the basis of material evidence collected, four persons Younis Nabi Naik of Pinglish, Fayaz Ahmad Wani of Reshipora, Riyaz Ahmad Ganaie of Nigeenpora and Bilal Ahmad Rather of Hafoo Nigeenpora were taken into custody,” he said, adding that investigation had revealed their complicity in terror attacks carried out in Tral.

Another module was busted in the Khrew area of Pampore in which six associates of the JeM were arrested. The police said the module in Khrew was in touch with Pakistani militant Waeem, who was killed in a gunfight on November 25.

The OGWs arrested were identified as Javaid Ahmad Parray of Bethan, Yasir Bashir Wani of Babapora, Tahir Yousuf Lone of Khrew, Rafiq Ahmad Bhat of Sharshali, Javaid Ahmad Khanday of Khrew and Imran Nazir of Naimsaab. “They were arrested on the basis of incriminating material recovered,” the spokesman said.

He said a huge quantity of incriminating material, including gelatin sticks, detonators, materials for making IEDs and grenades, was recovered from the module.

Meanwhile, eight militant accomplices were arrested in north Kashmir. They were planning to snatch weapons. “Based on a credible input that a criminal conspiracy has been hatched by some overground workers of terrorists to snatch weapons from policemen on duty, eight terrorist accomplices have been picked up by the police from the Baramulla, Tangmarg and Srinagar areas,” a senior police officer in Baramulla said. He said a case had been registered in Tangmarg police station and investigation taken up. “During the investigation, some recovery of arms and ammunition has been made with the assistance of other security forces, including the CRPF and Army,” he said.
