A gunfight raged between militants and forces in north Kashmir's Baramulla district on Thursday morning, officials said. The gunfight broke at Kreeri village of Baramulla when joint teams of police, Army and CRPF launched an anti-militancy operation after an input about militant presence in the area.

"As the forces were carrying searches, the militants opened fire triggering a gunfight, which is still underway," a police officer said.

Additional forces have been deployed in the area to maintain a tight cordon around the area. This is the second gunfight in Kashmir since Wednesday. Two local militants were killed in a gunfight in the outskirts of Srinagar in a gunfight. A shutdown is being observed on Thursday against the militant killings.

The call for the shutdown has been given by Kashmiri separatists under the banner of "Joint Resistance Leadership (JRL)”.
