Terrorising The Yatra

Shiban Khaibari

Pro-Pakistan Kashmiri leader, P Syed Geelani has issued a veiled threat to the annual Yatra to the holy cave of Shree Amarnath. True to the ideology, he and his mentor country, Pakistan is pursuing that of non-tolerance and hate off faiths, other than theirs and being vehement opponents of socio-religious coexistence, Geelani wants to put restrictions of how long the duration of the Yatra should be allowed and in his scheme of things, should not be more than 15 days as "in the past".

In this connection, at the outset, his threat perception or his unsolicited pre scribing of Yatra duration is rubbished, rejected and ridiculed.

His plea that with the extended duration of the Yatra, "ecology and environment is threatened" is pooh poohed in that he should unequivocally launch an forceful agitation against those who made Dal lake turn into a filthy septic tank and against those who with the arriving of Pakistan sponsored gun culture, mercilessly felled countless trees in the rich woods of Kashmir, yet against those who dried up numerous water bodies and constructed mansions on them, also against those self-styled leaders who became millionaires and possessors of properties and assets, quite disproportionate to their known sources of incomes.

Much before advent of Islam in Kashmir and forced proselytizing of the native population, Yatra to the holy cave was taking place and Geelani whose ancestors whether or not from Kashmir not -withstanding, should refrain from poking his nose in matters of faith of Hindus in general and the indigenous inhabitants, the Kashmiri Pandits in particular. Needless to add, the canard spread by perverted historians that some Muslims discovered the holy cave is tantamount to believing that the son was born before his grandfather and this distortion of facts is already a great travesty which is the handiwork of the likes of Geelani.

His dream of what he says seeking to an end of Indian rule in Jammu and Kashmir would never be fulfilled and his communal and hateful diatribes are deserving contempt and condemnation more so, when he utters such words and threats from mosques after Friday prayers. In his advanced matured age, he should cast off narrow zealot adventurism and should not stand in the queue of Aurangzeb, Babar, Mahmoud Ghazni and their ilk.
