Our News Folio- From Lucknow - Kashmiri Delegation meets Governors Advisor

A six-member deputation of Kashmiri Association consisting of Mr. J.L. Raina, Mr. Kedar Bakshi, Mr. Rajendra Kaul, Mr. Shailendra Kaul and Prof DN. Dhar under the leadership of its President, Dr. B.N. Sharga, met the advisor to the Governor, Mr. Ashok Priyadarshi, and handed over to him a written memorandum highlighting the plight of Kashmiri Hindu migrant families who had settled in Lucknow after 1989 due to terrorist violence in Kashmir.

Dr. Sharga has expressed surprise that though the Central Government had made a categorical statement on the floor of Parliament that some financial assistance per family was being given to all Kashmiri Hindu migrants, no such assistance was given to such migrants living in Lucknow.

The memorandum demanded that certain percentage of quota should be reserved in the educational and technical institutions in the State for boys and girls of Kashmiri Hindu migrants as was being done by the governments of Delhi and Maharashtra.

The Kashmiri Association has also demanded that house accommodation should be provided to the Kashmiri Hindu migrants on easy instalment basis as the State Government had done in the case of certain other categories of people so that the roof could be provided over their head to save them from the vagaries of the weather. Mr. Priyadarshi gave a patient hearing and assured the deputationists that their demands would be sympathetically looked into.

Kashmiri Association Lucknow has welcomed the announcement made by the Prime Minister that a probe would be ordered into the Amarnath tragedy. They have demanded a compensation of Rs. 5.0 lakh to the families of each pilgrim who lost his life. They have also asked the government to ensure that such tragedies do not recur in future by taking all the necessary measures.
