Relief for residents along IB as BSF releases compensation funds for acquired land
In a significant development for residents living along the International Border (IB) in Jammu, Kathua and Samba districts, the Border Security Force (BSF) has released funds to pay compensation for land acquired to develop 135-feet wide Bund and Border Observation Posts (BOPs).This move comes after the intervention of the Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA), led by Amit Shah and the matter pursued by Union Minister Dr Jitendra Singh on behalf of the border residents.
According to Dr Jitendra Singh, Divisional Commissioner Jammu, Ramesh Kumar has confirmed that the funds have been received and will be disbursed to the legitimate landowners through the respective Deputy Commissioners in the next few days.
This announcement has brought relief to the affected residents who have been waiting since long for the compensation.
The development of the 135-feet wide bund and BOPs is part of the efforts to strengthen security infrastructure along the International Border with hostile Pakistan. The project aims to enhance surveillance and monitoring capabilities, thereby ensuring the safety and security of the region.
However, compensation for the land used by the BSF for development of the Bund and BOPs on the stretches along zero line spreading from Kathua to Samba and Jammu, was not provided to the landowners and the affected people were demanding the same since long.
The matter came into notice of the Union Home Minister Amit Shah during his visit to border area in Hiranagar , last April when he was accompanied by local MP and Union Minister Dr Jitendra Singh, Director General of BSF and other senior officers.
During meeting with the HM, locals of Panchayat Babia and Londi in Hiranagar apprised him of their long pending demand of compensation for the land. On being inquired from the BSF officers, the Home Minister came to know that besides Hiranagar in Kathua, border residents of Jammu and Samba districts were also waiting for the similar compensation of their land along zero line.
On the intervention of Union Home Minister, the BSF Headquarters finally released the funds to pay compensation for the land acquired to develop 135-feet wide Bund and BOPs. The released funds are learnt to have been received by the office of Divisional Commissioner Jammu two days back and the same are likely to be disbursed to the legitimate land owners through respective Deputy Commissioner in next few days.
The residents of Kathua, Samba, and Jammu districts have appreciated the efforts of the MHA, BSF and Dr Jitendra Singh in resolving the long-pending issue of compensation.
The disbursement of compensation funds is expected to bring a sense of relief and satisfaction to the affected landowners, who were waiting since long for the compensation but never criticized the BSF and its border infrastructure.
