Panic gripped Barzulla locality of Srinagar after unknown persons threw petrol bombs towards a few houses. The incident took place in the wee hours of Monday. “I woke up to a loud sound. I ran towards the entrance of my house and saw someone hurling petrol bombs towards houses,” said a local resident, Mehraj ud Din Sheikh. He yelled at the assailants and woke up his neighbours. “Had I not created the noise, the assailants would have set at least 16 houses on fire,” he said.

Another resident said, “Had the locals not stepped in, we would have lost property worth crores of rupees because our locality is densely populated.”

According to residents, such elements have been resulting in fire incidents.

A police officer said an investigation had been launched to nab the assailants.
