Army detains Pak woman after she crosses LoC; repels drone in Poonch

Date:- 18 Jul 2022

A woman from Pakistan has been apprehended for crossing the Line of Control in Chakkan Da Bagh area in Poonch district of Jammu division. Also a drone coming from Pakistan-occupied Kashmir’s side to Krishna Ghati of the same (Poonch) district was fired at by Army personnel, forcing it to retreat. Both incidents took place late on Friday evening. Identified as 49-year-old Rozina, she is said to be a resident of Islamabad.

Her case is being looked upon with suspicion as the Army, barely three days ago, foiled an infiltration bid along the border in the same district. Army personnel handed her over to the police for further investigation.

A senior police officer, requesting anonymity, said the woman would be questioned to ascertain if she had crossed over to this side of the border inadvertently or it was a ploy. “There have been incidents in the past wherein children and women from different parts of Pakistan entered the Indian territory and, upon being caught, claimed it to be a mistake. We know it may be a ploy by Pakistan's ISI to know the security loopholes along the Line of Control," the police officer said.

If it comes to the light that the woman had crossed the border by mistake, her case would be sent to higher authorities for her repatriation to Pakistan, he added.

While questioning her, officials are keeping in mind the recent infiltration bid at the border. The night intervening July 12 and 13 saw Army men foiling an infiltration bid in Poonch sector.

Meanwhile, after the flying object was seen in Baloni area, a massive search operation was carried out on Saturday morning to see if it had dropped arms, ammunition or drugs.

Sources in the Army informed that troops deployed in the area saw the flying object with blinking lights approaching from Pakistan-occupied Kashmir (PoK) and opened fire, forcing it to fly back.

According to sources in the Army intelligence, the security grid along the Line of Control and other areas has been further strengthened in the wake of the ongoing Amarnath Yatra. Recently, Pakistan-backed terrorists had issued threats to the Amarnath pilgrims.
