Two Lashkar militants shot dead in Kulgam

Two Lashkar-e-Toiba (LeT) militants were killed in an encounter with security forces in Kulgam district on Wednesday, the police said.

Security forces had launched a cordon-and-search operation at Nawapora in Mir Bazaar area of Kulgam following information about the presence of militants there, a police official said.

The official said the search operation turned into an encounter in which two militants were killed.

“Both the killed terrorists have been identified as categorised local terrorists of the proscribed terror outfit LeT,” tweeted Vijay Kumar, Inspector General of Police, Kashmir zone. The operation site was very close to the national highway (yatra route), he added.

In Bandipora, security forces arrested an LeT militant, Mehboob ul Inam, a resident of Nadihal, a police official said. He was caught at a checkpoint at Papchan. On the basis of his disclosure, incriminating material, arms and ammunition including three AK-rifles, 10 magazines, 380 rounds, two kg explosive substance and a Chinese grenade have been seized, the official added.
