Jaish ultra among 4 terrorists shot in separate encounters in J&K

Date:- 22 Jun 2022

118 militants, including 32 foreigners, eliminated this year, says IGP

A Jaish-e-Mohammad (JeM) terrorist was among four ultras killed in two encounters in Pulwama and Baramulla districts on Tuesday.

Security forces launched a cordon-and-search operation in Tulibal village in Baramulla’s Sopore after receiving information about the presence of terrorists, a police spokesperson said. Two unidentified militants were killed in the encounter which was underway when the last report came in, he said.

Two terrorists were killed in another encounter in Tujjan in south Kashmir’s Pulwama. Kashmir IGP Vijay Kumar said one of the slain terrorists had been identified as Majid Nazir of Jaish-e-Mohammad. He said Nazir was involved in the killing of Sub-Inspector Farooq Ahmad Mir a few days ago.

According to Kumar, 118 militants, including 32 foreigners, had been killed so far this year. Of them, 77 militants belonged to the Lashkar-e-Toiba (LeT) and 26 to the JeM. During the same period last year, 55 militants, including two foreigners, had been eliminated.

Meanwhile, five houses have been sealed in Srinagar for allegedly providing shelter to militants. The police attached these houses under the Unlawful Activities Prevent Act (UAPA). “It has been proved beyond doubt that these houses were used for militancy and the shelter or harbour was voluntarily or knowingly given by the house members,” a police spokesperson said.

Many attacks on civilians and security forces were conspired and planned by militants while using these houses as hideouts, the police said.

Two houses are in Parimpora locality while one each in Panthachowk, Nowhatta and Zakoora localities of Srinagar. “More such houses have been identified,” the police said, adding that cops should be informed in case of any forced or coercive entry by militants in any house.

Also a hybrid terrorist of the LeT was caught in Baramulla and three terrorist associates in Budgam. Shahid Ahmad Parray, a resident of Bandipora, was caught carrying a pistol, a magazine, seven pistol rounds and two grenades, a police spokesman said.

In Budgam, Ashiq Hussain Hajam, Ghulam Mohi-ud-Din Dar and Tahir Bin Ahmed, all residents of Chadoora, were held for facilitating transportation of terrorists, arms, etc. A Chinese pistol, two magazines, 22 rounds, one AK magazine and 30 AK rounds have been seized. (With PTI inputs)
