Northern Command chief reviews operational preparedness in Ladakh

Lieutenant General Upendra Dwivedi of the Northern Command, who is on a four-day visit to Ladakh, visited forward areas and participated in International Day of Yoga at the Pangong Tso Lake on Tuesday.

“Over 1,75,000 soldiers and 75,000 families participated in yoga sessions with great enthusiasm throughout the Northern Command,” a defence spokesman said.

            Lt Gen Dwivedi interacted with troops and reviewed the operational preparedness along the Line of Actual Control (LAC). He had on Monday reached Leh amid the ongoing tension between Indian and Chinese armies for the past two years. He is also scheduled to visit Siachen region which is an area of conflict between India and Pakistan and is the highest battlefield of the world.

Sources said the Commander would also review the progress on induction of modern weaponry to Army units stationed along the LAC.

Dwivedi will also hold talks with senior officers of Ladakh-based 14 Corps.

At Jammu’s Octerio Border Outpost, Union Minister Jitendra Singh with BSF IG DK Boora performed yoga. Yoga can help develop unity and love, Singh said in a veiled reference to Pakistan

Meanwhile, Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha participated at an event on the banks of the Dal Lake. He urged all to embrace the ancient practice. MoS (Panchayati Raj) Kapil Patil among others was present.
