Date:- 19 Apr 2022

The Union Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA) today issued a notification, designating Jaish-e-Mohammad commander Ashiq Ahmed Nengroo as terrorist under the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act for his alleged involvement in various incidents of terrorism in J&K.

With this, the list of such designated individuals has touched the 36 mark. In nearly a fortnight, the MHA has designated five individuals, all based in Pakistan, as terrorists under the provision of the UAPA, 1967.

In the notification, a copy of which is with The Tribune, the MHA stated that 36-year-old Nengroo had been involved in facilitating terrorists’ infiltration into J&K and had also been responsible for perpetrating various terror incidents in the UT.

“After running a terror syndicate in Kashmir, Nengroo is now engaged in a perilous campaign to orchestrate terror in J&K, remote-controlled from Pakistan,” the MHA notification read, adding that he had been involved in the cases related to killing of a policeman in Pulwama in 2013, a civilian in 2020, terror funding and supply of weapons to terrorists.

In view of the danger that Nengroo poses to the security of the nation and in order to deter him from perpetrating terror acts, he has been designated as a terrorist under the provisions of the UAPA, 1967 (37 of 1967), the MHA added.

Nengroo hails from Pulwama. His slain brother Abbass Ahmed Nengroo was said to be a terrorist of the JeM.
