Averting a major terror attack ahead of Independence Day, the security forces have killed a Pakistani terrorist in an encounter in Kulgam. According to intelligence inputs, the slain ultra was planning to hit targets along the Jammu-Srinagar National Highway in the district.
Officials said the overnight encounter began after two terrorists, who had positioned themselves in a building, started firing indiscriminately on a BSF convoy on the highway near Malpora Mir Bazar area of Kulgam.
Identifying the slain ultra as Usman from Pakistan, Kashmir IG Vijay Kumar said the “dreaded” terrorist was active in the Valley for the past six months.
Noting that initially during the exchange of fire there were no injuries, the official said police and Army reinforcements reached and cordoned off the area after which the encounter took place. An AK-47 rifle, magazines, grenades and an RPG-7 rocket launcher were seized.
During the operation, a CRPF jawan and an Army personnel and two civilians got injured and all of them are under treatment.
