An unidentified militant was killed in an encounter with security forces in Kulgam district on Sunday.

Security forces launched a cordon-and-search operation in Munand area of the south Kashmir district on Sunday morning following inputs about the presence of militants, a police official said.

As the forces were conducting a search in the area, the militants fired upon them. The security men retaliated, ensuing an encounter in which one militant was killed. The operation is on and further details are awaited, he added.

Meanwhile, in another incident, militants snatched a policeman’s service rifle in Kulgam district, police sources said.

According to the sources, an AK-47 rifle was snatched in the Shamsipora Khudwani crossing area by militants. A search operation is now going on to trace the criminals. — PTI/IANS
