27-kg heroin worth Rs135 crore seized from intruder

The Border Security Force (BSF) today said its troopers had gunned down a narcotic smuggler along the International Border (IB) in Hiranagar sector of Kathua district. As much as 27-kg heroin, worth approximately Rs 135 crore in the international market, has been seized.

A BSF spokesperson said the incident took place in the Pansar border outpost (BOP) area of Hiranagar sector when the personnel noticed the smuggler trying to sneak into the Indian side from across the border. They shot him after he ignored their warnings and tried to flee, he added.

The slain smuggler’s identity is being ascertained.

Another official of the Border Security Force said the value of the narcotic seized during the operation was estimated to be worth approximately Rs 135 crore in the international market.

He pointed out that earlier on January 23 the BSF had detected a 150-metre underground tunnel, which was meant to facilitate the infiltration of terrorists from Pakistan side for carrying out subversive activities, in the BOP Pansar area.

Lodging protest with Pak army: BSF IG

  • BSF IG NS Jamwal said they were lodging a strong protest with the Pakistani army along with full evidence. “We were getting inputs about bid to smuggle narcotics,” he said.
  • Pakistani Rangers are also trying to establish the identity of the slain person at their end, Jamwal added. PTI
