The National Investigation Agency (NIA) today said it had registered a case relating to conspiracy by a terror organisation Lashkar-e-Mustafa working at the behest of Jaish-e-Mohammed to carry out terrorist activities in Jammu to threaten the sovereignty, integrity and security of India.

Officials said the case was initially registered at the Gangyal police station in Jammu on February 6 under various sections of the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act (UAPA) and now the NIA has re-registered it and has taken over the investigation.

“The arrested accused — Hidayatullah Malik is the chief of Lashkar-e-Mustafa. During a search, one hand grenade, three magazines and 28 rounds with other incriminating material were recovered from his possession,” a senior official of the agency said.

Malik had done reconnaissance of many security installations in Jammu and Delhi in 2018 and 2019 for carrying out terror attacks, the official said, adding he had been associated with other terror groups in the past and has furthered subversive and terror activities in Kashmir valley.

The terror group had also committed a daylight bank robbery in which Rs 60 lakh were looted from J&K Bank’s main branch Shopian in November.
