The J&K Police on Friday confirmed that DNA test results showed that the three youths killed in the Shopian “encounter” on July 18 were Rajouri residents. Asked if the slain youths had links with militants, Inspector General of Police Vijay Kumar said: “The police will expedite investigations and proceed as per the findings of the DNA report.”

Imtiyaz Ahmad, Abrar Ahmad and Mohammad Ibrar were cousins. Their families claimed that they had left for Shopian to work as labourers but were killed in a staged encounter.
