Hizbul trying to regroup in north Kashmir, says Army

Date:- 07 Sep 2020

A day after three militants were killed, a senior security official said the Hizbul Mujahideen was trying to regroup itself in north Kashmir.

The three militants were killed in a day-long gunfight and three security men, including a Major, were injured at Yedipora Pattan in Baramulla district on Friday. The police said two of the slain ppersons were local militants who were associated with the Hizbul Mujahideen.

“The activity of the Hizbul was very less in north Kashmir. It now seems the Hizb is trying to re-establish its base in north,” Commander, 10 Sector Rashtriya Rifles, Brigadier NK Mishra, said at a joint press conference which was also addressed by Deputy Inspector General of Police (DIG) North Kashmir Range, Muhammad Sulaiman Choudhary.

The Army officer said the forces would foil all plans of the outfit aimed at its revival in the north Kashmir.

DIG Choudhary said three militants killed in Pattan were affiliated with the Hizb and it was after a long time that any militant of the outfit was killed in north Kashmir.

“Two of the slain militants were locals and have been identified as Shafkat Ali Khan of Rawatpora, Delina and Hanan Bilal Sofi of old town Baramulla. The identity of the third one is being ascertained,” he said, adding that arms and ammunition were also recovered from the gunfight site.
