Within 12 hours after the grenade blast, security forces arrested two persons allegedly involved in the attack in north Kashmir’s Baramulla town on Monday, which had left seven civilians injured.

The police said they detained Fayaz Ahmad Kumar, alias Narsimha, of Khanpora, Baramulla, and Aqib Sharif Bhat, alias DK Syed Kareem, of Baramulla, for lobbing the grenade on the insistence of the Lashkar- e-Toiba.

On Monday afternoon, a grenade was lobbed on an Army convoy on the Azadgunj Bridge, which missed the target and exploded on the roadside resulting in injuries to seven civilians.

“On the basis of human and technical intelligence, a joint operation was launched in which two suspects Fayaz and Aqib were detained and after sustained interrogation, they revealed that they lobbed the grenade on the insistence of terrorists of LeT,” Senior Superintendent of Police, Baramulla, Abdul Qayoom said.

“The aim of lobbing the grenade was to disturb law and order and vitiate the peaceful atmosphere in Baramulla and to motivate the youth to join terrorist ranks and their sympathisers,” he said. — TNS
