At least seven civilians were injured today when a militant lobbed a hand grenade on an Army vehicle which missed its target and exploded on a road in north Kashmir’s Baramulla town, officials said.

Hours later, another grenade attack took place in the neighbouring Sopore town.

The the first attack took place at around 1.15 pm near the Azad Gunj bridge in Baramulla and the condition of all the injured was stated to be stable.

A Srinagar-based defence spokesman said the militant hurled the grenade on the Army convoy moving from Baramulla, which missed the last vehicle and resulted in injuries to the civilians.

“The area was cordoned off to trace the attacker,” he said.

The blast triggered panic in Baramulla. Normal life was, however, restored after some time.

The police said a case had been registered at the Baramulla police station in this regard.

In the second attack of the day, suspected militants lobbed a grenade at a police post in Sopore town of north Kashmir at around 6 pm.

“There was no loss of life reported in the incident,” a police officer said. Soon after the attack, a massive manhunt was launched in the area.

Meanwhile, security forces claimed to have recovered arms and ammunition from a forest area of the Boniyar area in Baramulla district. The recovery included two dismantled AK 47s, two AK magazines, 74 AK rounds, 10 grenades and a pistol.
