Two militants — top Lashkar-e-Toiba commander Sajad Mir and his local associate Anayatullah Mir were killed on Monday. Two soldiers, a militant killed in ongoing Kreeri operation.

Two soldiers and an unidentified militant was killed in an ongoing operation at Kreeri in north Kashmir’s Baramulla district on Tuesday, officials said. The gunfight had erupted on Monday morning after militants attacked a joint naka party of the police and the CRPF personnel at Kreeri, Baramulla, leaving a Special Police Officer and two CRPF men dead. In the subsequent operation that continued, two militants — top Lashkar-e-Toiba commander Sajad Mir alias Hyder and his local associate Anayatullah Mir were killed on Monday. A Srinagar-based defence spokesman said Col Rajesh Kalia said one militant was killed on Tuesday.

“One more terrorist was killed, taking the terrorist toll in the operation to three. A total of one AK and three pistols recovered. Two soldiers were critically injured and have succumbed to their injuries,” Col Kalia said, adding that a joint operation was in progress. The operation at Kreeri entered the second day on Tuesday as a fresh exchange of fire took place between militants and security forces this morning. Sources said the militant was hiding in an underground hideout which prolonged the operation.
