Protest March

The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) today said the party would observe August 5, as a ‘black day’ until special status of J&K was restored.

“Today, the party reiterates that August 5 is and will continue to be a ‘black day’ as a reminder of the constitutional fraud perpetrated on the people of J&K and that of how this fraud was imposed with the might of incarcerations and under the dark shadow of suspension of civil liberties,” party spokesman Suhail Bukhari said in a press note issued here.

The party condemned the continued atrocities on the people of Jammu and Kashmir by the BJP regime even after one year of their promised utopia. President Mehbooba Mufti completes one year in detention and all top leaders are under house arrest. Meanwhile, PDP senior leader and general secretary Ghulam Nabi Lone Hanjura has termed August 5 as the most gruesome chapter of Kashmir’s history, reiterating that the breach of trust by the Centre has belittled to the core the democratic institutions of Jammu and Kashmir.

In a statement issued here, Hanjura said one year down the line when the identity of the people here was eroded through an undemocratic and unconstitutional measure, the people of Kashmir were in the midst of dystopian nightmare with all their aspirations being muzzled and their wishes unfulfilled.
