Troops take position during gun battle at Waghama, Bijbehara -Excelsior

Army today foiled an infiltration bid at Parkian Gali sector in North Kashmir’s Kupwara district while two militants of Islamic State Jammu and Kashmir were killed in a gun battle in Anantnag district of South Kashmir.

Army said that a group of at least 6 to 8 intruders was challenged at Parkian Gali along LoC but it fled away taking advantage of darkness. Army in its tweet said that an infiltration bid of around 6 to 8 militants was observed at Parkian Gali sector last night but they managed to flee away.

“On night of 29/ 30 Jun 20, suspicious movement of 6-8 persons was observed in two groups in Parkian Gali Sector, Kupwara (J&K) along the LoC. Own troops challenged the infiltrators with fire. Infiltrators ran away taking help of darkness”, Army tweeted.

More troops have been rushed to the area and massive searches launched to ensure that no militant managed to sneak in.

Two militants of Islamic State of Jammu and Kashmir were killed in a gun battle that broke out in Waghama area of Bijbehara in South Kashmir’s Anantnag district this morning.

Today’s encounter was the second encounter in last 24-hours in Anantnag district. Yesterday, three militants including the last surviving militant from Doda district, were killed in Runipora, Anantnag.

Inspector General of Police (IGP) Kashmir range, Vijay Kumar told Excelsior that two militants along with Zahid were involved in the recent attack in Bijbehara, where a CRPF man and a minor boy were killed.

Acting on a specific tip-off about the presence of militants in Bijbehara, joint teams of security forces including Army, Police and CRPF launched a cordon early morning today. “When the forces zeroed in on a suspected spot, the hiding militants opened fire at the forces triggering an encounter,” an official said, adding that security forces while following the proper Standard Operating Procedure (SOP), performed professionally and in the ensuing gunfight, two militants were killed.

The militants have been identified as Yawar Ahmad Bhat son of Ghulam Nabi Bhat of Hutigam and Ukash Muzaffar Sheikh son of Muzaffar Hussain Sheikh of Boughgam Kulgam.

With the killing of two more militants today, the total number of slain militants killed this year in Kashmir has reached 128. This month, police said, 48 militants were killed.
