Terrorists kill two cops, a BJP worker. Protests erupt in the Valley after Eid prayers, several injured; police lob teargas shells to control stone pelters; protesters shout anti-India slogans

Eid ul-Adha celebrations in Jammu and Kashmir were marked by terror attacks in which two cops and a BJP worker were killed in South Kashmir. Isolated incidents of stone pelting were also reported after prayers outside some eidgahs in Kashmir, and police had to lob teargas shells to contain the stone pelters.

A policeman was killed by terrorists when he was returning home after offering Eid prayers in Awgam village. Fayaz Ahmed Shah was shot at outside an eidgah and died on the spot. Police said 34-year-old Fayaz was training in Talwara and had come home to celebrate with his family. Shah, who earlier worked as a Special Police Officer, was recently promoted as constable.

In another incident, BJP worker Shabir Ahmad Bhat was abducted and killed by terrorists in Pulwama district.

In a third attack, terrorists killed a policeman in Louswani area of south Kashmir’s Pulwama district. Mohammad Yaqoob was shot at from point-blank range outside his home. The critically injured cop was rushed to Newa primary health centre in Pulwama, from where he was referred to Srinagar hospital. He succumbed to injuries on way to Srinagar hospital.

Expressing anguish at the killing of the BJP worker, party president Amit Shah said extremists cannot stop the valley’s youths from choosing a better future and that the cycle of violence will not last long.

In another attack, three terrorists shot dead police sub-inspector Mohd Asharf Dar at his house in Larve, Pulwama, before fleeing.
