Abducted trainee cop shot in Kulgam

Date:- 22 Jul 2018

The bullet-riddled body of a trainee constable, abducted by suspected militants from his home on Friday, was recovered in south Kashmir’s Kulgam district on Saturday.

The slain policeman, Muhammad Saleem Shah, belonged to Motelhama village of Kulgam. He is the second policeman to have been abducted and killed in the past fortnight in south Kashmir.

A senior police official said Shah’s body — which bore torture marks as well — was recovered 3 km from his home on Saturday afternoon. A hunt was launched by security forces soon after the abduction. No militant group has claimed responsibility, though police suspect the hand of Hizbul Mujahideen.

Shah was recently promoted from Special Police Officer (SPO) to trainee constable and was undergoing training in Kathua. On July 6, a policeman, Javaid Ahmad Dar, was found dead hours after he was abducted from his home at Vehil village in Shopian district.
