Both suffered cardiac arrest; toll up to 14. Two pilgrims died due to natural causes, taking the death toll in this year’s pilgrimage to the Amarnath shrine in south Kashmir Himalayas to 14, police said.

A woman pilgrim, Lakshmi Bhai, 54, a resident of Hyderabad, died due to cardiac arrest at Baltal base camp in Ganderbal district of Jammu and Kashmir on Saturday night, a police official said. The body has been kept at the base camp hospital.

Another pilgrim, Ravinder Nath, 72, a resident of Andhra Pradesh, was taken ill and admitted to SKIMS hospital in Soura. He passed away at the hospital, the official added.

National highway shut. Thousands including Amarnath pilgrims were left stranded as authorities suspended traffic on Jammu-Srinagar national highway and Mughal road connecting Kashmir with rest of the country on Sunday.

Director General of Police SP Vaid had announced suspension of the ongoing yatra for Sunday in view of the strike call given by separatists to mark the second death anniversary of Hizbul Mujahideen commander Burhan Wani.

“I appeal to the pilgrims to cooperate with us keeping in mind the (law and order) situation in the Valley,” the DGP said. Agencies.
