India, Pakistan Hold Talks On DGMO Hotline

Date:- 27 Jun 2018

India and Pakistan on Tuesday held talks on the Directors General Military Operations (DGMO) hotline. The parleys held between two Director level officers of both sides comes in the backdrop of mutual agreement between the two Armies on May 29 to observe ceasefire on the Line of Control (LoC) and International Border.

Terming the talks as routine, officials said the issue of ceasefire did not figure. As part of confidence building measure, the two armies hold talks on the DGMO hotline every week on Tuesday or Wednesday.

The agreement to observe ceasefire on the LoC as done in 2003 was arrived at when the DGMOs of two countries talked to each other on the hotline on May 29. Since then, the 750-km long LoC has not seen any incident of cross-border firing. Earlier, the Pakistan Army used to fire to provide covering fire to terrorists trying to infiltrate into Kashmir from across the LoC.
