Shutdown In Kashmir Against Killings

Date:- 22 Jun 2018

The normal life was affected across Kashmir on Thursday in response to a shutdown call by separatists against recent civilian killings, including that of journalist Shujaat Bukhari.

Joint Resistance Leadership (JRL) led by prominent separatist leaders Syed Ali Geelani, Mirwaiz Umar Farooq and Yasin Malik had called for the shutdown. Shujaat was assassinated along with two of his security guards in Press Enclave in Srinagar on June 14.

Shops, public transport, fuel stations, other businesses and educational institutions remained shut at most of the places while attendance in banks, post offices and government offices was thin due to non-availability of public transport.

Scanty private transport and some three wheelers moved in uptown and city outskirts in Srinagar. Tourists were seen to throng Mughal gardens in the Srinagar outskirts. Similar reports of disruption in normal life from other cities and towns in the Valley were also received.
