Six Infiltrators Killed In Kashmir

Six infiltrators have been killed as Army foiled a major infiltration bid in Keran sector of north Kashmir’s Kupwara district on Sunday. Theentire area has been cordoned off for a combing operation to trackdown more suspected infiltrators.

Sources said a group of armed militants was noticed trying toinfiltrate into this side of the Line of Control (LoC) early onSunday. Soon after the suspicious movement was noticed, the counterinfiltration security grid initiated action that resulted into aprolonged gunfight.

In the ensuing encounter, six armed infiltratorswere killed in several phases of the operation.

A defence spokesman said that a large haul of arms and ammunition wasrecovered from the slain militants.

He said search operation was in progress till last reports came infrom the area.

The infiltration bid took place despite the armies of India andPakistan reaffirming their commitment to adhere to ceasefire agreedupon by the two countries in 2003.
