2 Terrorists Killed In Handwara

Two unidentified terrorists were killed in a gunbattle in Handwara area of north Kashmir while terrorists made an abortive attempt to snatch rifle from a paramilitary personnel in South Kashmir’s Kulgam district.

A senior Police official said that the militants opened fire upon patrolling party of 32 Rashtriya Rifles late on Tuesday night in the forest area of Qaziabad in Kralgund of Kupwara district.

The fire was retaliated which resulted in an encounter, he said.

The exchange of gunfire continued for some time and the operation was later suspended due to darkness, the officer said.

He said that two bodies of unidentified terrorists were recovered along with two rifles and other war like stores during the search operation in the area.

The identities and the group affiliation of the slain are being ascertained, the officer said, adding it seems that the duo killed in the operation are foreigners.

The encounter took place close on the heels of ceasefire enforcement agreed by the directors general of military operations of India and Pakistan.

In another incident suspected terrorists attempted to snatch service rifle of a CRPF personnel in Kulgam area of south Kashmir. However, the alert trooper thwarted the attempt.
