A youth, Mohammed Ishaq (18), was injured in the cross-LoC firing in Pukhrani village of Rajouri district on Sunday.
Ishaq, a resident of Pukhrani village, was given preliminary treatment at Sub-District Hospital, Nowshera, and was later referred to Government Medical College and Hospital, Jammu.
Official sources said the Pakistan and Indian armies traded small arm fire in Pukhrani village, a few hundred metres from the LoC. They said a bullet hit Ishaq while he was sitting in his room.
Pukhrani sarpanch Mohammad Sadiq, however, said Ishaq, after attending a nature’s call, was drinking water outside his house around 12.45 am when a bullet fired from across the LoC hit him on the shoulder. He said Ishaq belonged to a poor family and needed immediate financial assistance from the administration.
“Ishaq’s father was injured in a mine blast in the past and has a damaged leg. In January, he received splinter injuries and lost his eye,” he said.
“The naib tehsildar had been directed to visit the family on Sunday to complete the legal formalities at the earliest for the compensation case. The Block Medical Officer has been asked to provide necessary medical help to the victim,” said Sukhdev Singh Samyal, Additional Deputy Commissioner, Nowshera.
