Two hurt in Pulwama grenade attack

Two civilians were injured in a grenade blast at Awantipora in Pulwama district on Thursday. They were evacuated to a nearby hospital, where their condition was stated to be stable.

The incident, as per police reports, took place in Awantipora main town around 2.45 pm. “Militants tried to target a CRPF deployment in the area. The grenade exploded by the roadside, leaving two civilians injured,” a senior police officer said. The police officer said some cars were also damaged in the blast.

Following the blast, a contingent of forces was rushed to the area and searches were carried out to nab the attackers.

Militant’s brother shot dead

The brother of a Hizbul Mujhaideen militant was shot dead by unidentified gunmen in Pulwama on Wednesday evening. The slain has been identified as Zahoor Ahmad Sheikh, brother of Hizb militant Irfan Ahmad Sheikh, a resident of Naira village in Pulwama. Clashes erupted in Naira after the funeral prayers on Thursday. —OC
