Youth detained outside Sunjuwan Army Stn

Date:- 13 May 2019

A youth was detained by Army and handed over to police for investigations after he was found moving suspiciously outside Sunjuwan Military Station, which was stormed by three militants in February last year in which six Army jawans and a civilian were martyred while all three militants were eliminated.
The youth was confronted by the Army outside the main gate of Sunjuwan military station, a sprawling camp in the outskirts of the City and detained while moving outside the vital Army installation under mysterious circumstances.
Significantly, the youth was carrying two identity cards with him and his name differed on both of them.
A Defence spokesman said the boy had his identity mentioned as Ark Ahmed on Aadhaar card and Arik Wani in the Voter identity card with names of parents stated as Ghulam Ahmed and Shamima Begum. He claimed himself to be a resident of Ramban.
“The boy was found loitering suspiciously around ‘B’ gate of Sunjuwan Military Station at about 1.07 pm when he was detained by the troops and subjected to sustained questioning,’’ sources said, adding the boy claimed that he had reached Jammu yesterday.

They said the youth disclosed that he had come to meet Mukesh Kumar, who works at Jammu Darbar restaurant in Channi Himmat.
Sources said the troops closely monitored movement of the youth and detained him.
Following the drills and procedures, they said the Army personnel asked the individual to prove his identity. In the evening, Army called local police team from Channi Himmat police station and handed over the youth to them for further questioning and investigations in the case to ascertain reasons behind mysterious movement of the youth outside Sunjuwan Military Station.

It may be mentioned here that Sunjuwan Military Station was attacked by three militants of Jaish-e-Mohammed (JeM) outfit on February 10, 2018 in which six Army personnel and a civilian were martyred. In retaliation, Army had gunned down all three fidayeens, who were stated to be Pakistanis.
Police, however, declined to comment as to whether the youth was conducting recce of Sunjuwan Military Station or was inadvertently moving there.
