BSF SI injured in Pak shelling

A sub-inspector (SI) of the BSF was injured with splinter injuries when the Pakistan army resorted to unprovoked heavy shelling and firing on the Army’s forward locations and civilian areas in the Krishna Ghati sector (KG) in Poonch district on the second consecutive day today.

The injured BSF personnel was identified as Gokul Anand and admitted to a hospital in Poonch. He was reported to be stable.

In the late evening hours on Sunday, a teacher Mushtaq Hussain of Maldyallian village (in Degwar) was injured when a mortar shell fired by the Pakistan army landed near his house.

“The Army retaliated the unprovoked shelling with mortars and firing of small arms in the Krishna Ghati sector at 2.45 pm today,” said Lt-Col Devender Anand, PRO, Defence. On Sunday, the Pakistan army initiated unprovoked ceasefire violation by shelling with artillery and firing with small arms along the Krishna Ghati sector.

A Colonel of the army unit and four soldiers were injured and admitted to the army hospital in Rajouri. A porter was injured in the Keri sector in Rajouri district and was admitted to the army hospital in Udhampur.

All government and private schools falling within 0-5 km from the LoC remained closed today in the Keri sector for the safety of the students as Pakistan on Sunday had targeted civilian areas in which one porter was injured.

MA Asad, Deputy Commissioner, today visited villages near the LoC, including Rattal and Bassali, and handed over a cheque for Rs 15,000 as initial aid to the mother of Mohd Maroof, porter, who was injured in the shelling yesterday.

Meanwhile, border dwellers, including Liakat Choudhry, sarpanch, demanded the early construction of bunkers, bullet-proof ambulance and the construction of a medical centre at Bassali.

Schools remain closed in Keri sector

All government and private schools falling within 0-5 km from the LoC remained closed today in the Keri sector for the safety of the students as Pakistan on Sunday had targeted civilian areas in which one porter was injured.
