Hours after the Indian Air Force (IAF) dismantled terror camps on Tuesday, the Pakistan army targeted civilian areas along the Line of Control (LoC) in the state.
The Pakistan army used missiles and mortars to pound border villages all along from Akhnoor to Poonch which started around 5.30 pm on Tuesday and continued till midnight.
On Wednesday morning, Pakistani troops targeted Indian posts in the Uri sector in north Kashmir which resulted into the suspension of the Cross-LoC trade.
The Army retaliated with similar weapons and decimated five posts of the Pakistan army.
“Since 5.30 pm on Tuesday, the Pakistan army initiated unprovoked ceasefire violations by shelling with heavy calibre weapons in 12 to 15 places along the LoC. The Army retaliated for effect and our focused fire resulted in severe destruction to five Pakistani posts and a number of casualties to its army. The Pakistani troops were also seen firing mortars and missiles from civilian houses, using villagers as human shields. However, the Army targeted Pakistan posts away from civilian localities,” a defence spokesman said.
“In exchange of fire, five men of the Army suffered minor injuries of which two were evacuated to the Military Hospital for treatment. They are stable,” he added.
The Pakistan army fired mortar shells towards Indian posts around 3 am from across the LoC in the Kamalkote and Kalgi areas, a senior police officer from Baramulla told The Tribune.
Following this, Pakistan again violated ceasefire in the same area around 8.30 am during which some houses were damaged. However, the damage was minimal with no loss of life or injury to the civilians, an official said.
