2 slain militants from Pak: Police

Two Pakistani nationals were among the three Jaish-e-Mohammed militants killed in a gunfight in south Kashmir’s Kulgam district on Sunday. A Deputy Superintendent of Police and an Army man were also killed in the gunfight.

The police identified the three slain militants as Raqib Ahmad Sheikh of Shiganpora, Kulgam, and the other two as Waleed and Numan from Pakistan.

“All three killed terrorists were affiliated with the proscribed terror outfit JeM. The two killed Pakistani terrorists, Waleed and Numan, as per the police records, were the top commanders of the JeM. They were active in southern parts of the Kashmir valley,” a police spokesman said.

“As per the police records, they were involved in conspiring and executing several terrorist attacks and were wanted for their complicity in a series of terror crimes, including attacks on security establishments and civilian atrocities. Several terror crime cases were registered against them,” he said.

Meanwhile, a wreath-laying ceremony was held for Naib Subedar Sombir Singh, 37, at the Badamibagh cantonment here. Sombir, a resident of Bhiwani, Haryana, was killed in the Kulgam gunfight. He had joined the Army in February 2001.
